The versatility of Cobots, why cobots?

If you're still unsure about the benefits of a collaborative robot, its differences with industrial robots, it's advantages and disadvantages, then this DEMO might help you make up your mind (I hope you enjoy silent movies), let us show you how versatile are cobots and why they are useful.

We recently posted a blog on the applications of a cobot: unleashing the true potential of Dobot's CR series, where you can explore where cobots can be incredibly useful. For example, if you have limited space, need the robot to work alongside a person, want to create an autonomous application with an AGV, require the flexibility to move the robot around, or re-purpose and re-program the robot frequently.

In this video we highlight the unique functionalities of the Dobot CR10 SS cobot, such as hand gliding, trajectory recording, collision avoidance with SafeSkin, block programming... Additionally, we demonstrate some quick integrations, like window cleaning and a pick-and-place example.

Unlike traditional industrial robot arms (Kuka, Fanuc, ABB, Yaskawa, and others), which are fast but challenging to relocate once automated, collaborative robots offer the advantage of easy programming and smaller size, making them more convenient to move and re-purpose. For instance, in the video, we showcase how we quickly moved the robot from window cleaning to performing pick and place tasks next to a 3D printer.

One distinguishing feature of DOBOT's cobots is the SafeSkin, available in some of their models. It enables the robot to detect objects using an electromagnetic field which can automatically avoid collisions. Though these robots also follow the standard collaborative safety protocols and stop upon collision, the SafeSkin adds an extra layer of collision avoidance for the upper axis of the robot (Axis 3, 4, 5, and 6).

DOBOT's cobots are excellent for automation and are renowned for their innovative Magician series, which won the CES 2018 Innovation Award and the Red Dot Design Award. They offer versatile options for education, such as the Magician and Magician Lite series, equipped with various add-ons like pen holders, laser engravers, 3D printers, suction cups, joystick remote controls, and more. These robots are designed with STEAM education in mind, encouraging learners to explore their creativity and imagination while learning robotics and programming.

Whether you're interested in basic block programming using Scratch or writing Python scripts for artificial vision, machine learning, or even AI, Dobot's cobots provide an excellent platform for passionate technology enthusiasts who want to delve into robotics and programming.
